How much money can a panhandler make each day?

My daughter and I are having a bit of a disagreement. She said that people who elicit money from motorists at street corners can make about 400 to 500 dollars a day. I don't think so. I think most people, if they are willing to give money to the homeless, usually donate only 2 or 3 dollars. Given that, a homeless person would have to receive money by a motorist every few seconds in order to get anywhere close to 400 to 500 bucks a day. And I never see that many people hand them money when I'm at a red light. So, what do you all say? What do you think the most a homeless person can make per day panhandling?

offer some of them a job, say cleaning up the dog poop in your backyard, for 20 bucks, and see what kind of excuse they come up with.
Reply:I know of a few that pull in about 50K a year. Some are good at it.
Reply:gee gail!!!! wake up...ur daughter is right...there are panhandlers out there who have their mercedes or caddis parkt right up the street from where they stand...just go up to it and make like ur gunna break in and get a picture of it so we can post it on t.v. for other ignorants like urself...(not meant in a bad way either)..columbus has lowered itself to putting residents out there for this purpose...DONT GIVE UNLESS ur sure they aint got a vehicle...
Reply:I would say 100 to 200 dollars (tax free) per day.. 500 would take a lot of giving like 50 dollars per hour and I don't think that they get that many givers..
Reply:I stopped giving bums money the night I saw one walking around with old clothes, an "anything will help" sign, and an ipod.
