I have to drive about 30 miles each way to get to work. When I get near my building I have to pay five dollars a day to park. I walk five blocks to my building. There are no trains, buses or subways that run between my house and my work.

find a new job
bicycle instead of motorcar
change to a 4 day work week
You don't HAVE to do this, you have chosen to do this... it's a free country and your labor can not be conscripted. If the situation seems untenable all you have to do is to change the situation. I have some trouble believing that in a community that the closest parking is 5 blocks away and the density is such that you pay $5 for it there is no public transport.
Reply:Ask around at work to see if anyone lives in the same direction as you, and if some does try car sharing - one week you drive and the other is a passenger and the other week they drive and you are a passenger.
Whoever is the passenger gives the driver some money to help with that week's fuel and parking.
Reply:Find a carpool buddy. Post on your company bulletin board and see if anyone is coming from your area.
Or you could find another place to park, a little further away from your work, and then take the bus to your workplace.
Or you could just move closer.
Reply:Get a 250cc scooter. 85mph, 75mpg, you can probably park closer for free.
What's the point in hauling 2 tonnes of steel 60 miles a day just to get about 150lbs of flesh and bone to work?
Reply:Let the engine die everytime you are at lights etc. Or try to find someone to share rides with...put a notice up in work....campaign for a bus!
