How much money should I take to Ecuador and galapagos islands for 2 weeks?

Am not planning on buying anything in particular but am unable to find out relative costs. Also, what is the best way to take money ie cash, travellers cheques or credit cards.

How much money should I take to Ecuador and galapagos islands for 2 weeks?
getting to the Galapagos will cost nearly as much as your ticket to Quito or Guayaquil.

I worked for a year in Ecuador on a salary of $200 monthly,(4 yrs. ago),so its possible to live cheaply if your careful.

If you are in the countryside you'll need cash, but for safety don't take too much.

Large denomination notes will be troublesome.Take maybe $150 in fivers, and $50 singles
Reply:Cost of living in Ecuador has increased significantly in the past few years. It might still be cheaper than the US, but I wouldn't take less money than if going on a trip to Orlando or San Diego. Report Abuse

Reply:Galapagos is expensive not only to get to, but to tour around. Also, drinks of any kind are going to be almost twice the price of continental Ecuador (you know, that thing about transporting them all the way there from mainland). Report Abuse

Reply:The cost of foood in Galapagos is relatively the same as continental Ecuador, but you will be thirsty, so get prepared to spend some bucks on water. Report Abuse

Reply:I think you should take about 300 USD after plane tickets. This would cover some typical food, souvenirs, taxis, internet, partying and museums.

If you'd like to buy stuff at a mall you better use your credit card. If you're gonna shop at a hotel, use again your CC. However, if you're gonna travel a lot to small towns you better bring cash--take care of it if you go around Guayaquil. In Galapagos there's not a lot of mugging. I think in Galapagos you won't spend a lot of money if you've already paid you hotel and tour. Souvenirs are a bit expensive (100 USD if you're gonna buy shirts, and figurines)
Reply:about 2k usdollars to get there and back....

tres expensive* ship to islands and etc. the first answer is

right
Reply:take credit cards, your atm card will be good overseas, just tell the bank your leaving...

galapagos is a little expensive , if you want to check out the sites of the animals and take tours and all , it could be safe with $2000, but if you just going to relax on the beach and chill out , $1000 and your safe
Reply:At least $2000 combined cash and credit card if you want be traveling to places like the Galapagos. I took $1,500 for 2 weeks I spent there but didn't go to Galapagos. This is a touristic place so it is expensive (imagine you are going to Miami from NY) On the other hand the food is cheap, you could eat lunch for only $2 and dinner for 2 for about $10. Cash is your best bet to bring over but a credit card will be useful as well. Good luck!
Reply:You could have a fantastic time on a million dollars.
