How can i get a refund on a lost Western Union money order?

I purchased a $250 money order from Western Union six months ago. I sent it to a friend of mine cause he was short on funds and needed the money. I did it as a an surprise gift and I guess his pride took a hold of the situation because he tore it up and never cashed it.

Now that the money order is gone I'm trying to figure out how to get that $250 back. There is a refund request on the back of the money order receipt, but since it contains my only proof of having bought the money order, I'm a bit nervous of letting go of it.

If there is anybody out there with experience on getting a refund I would be interested in hearing your story. Or if you have any advice on what to do, that would be appreciated as well.

How can i get a refund on a lost Western Union money order?
I might suggest calling Western Union or drop into a western union. If the only way to get a refund is to send the receipt in, I would ask if the Western union location can somehow copy it and certify it to be a true copy of the original. There might be a form that needs to be filled out indemnifying them if the money order is cashed (meaning you will be liable if the money order is subsequently cashed).

Hope that helps!

How much money does a person need to open up a cafe in Florida?

I have to write a paper for economics where I start my own business. I would like to open up a Cafe, but I don't know how much money I would need to start it up. Does anyone know?

How much money does a person need to open up a cafe in Florida?
Property is the biggest factor? Renting or Leasing? Insurance, Permits, Investment, Bond, License are the biggest, How big? I'll say between 12,000 dlls to 30,000 dlls.

How much money to wildland firefighters make?

I've been thinking about getting a job as a wildland firefighter next summer. I already know how to get the training I need, but I was wondering what the pay is like. I'm interested in firefighting because it would be a new experience, but I'm a college student, and I could certainly use some money.

How much money to wildland firefighters make?
Look on the web for local wildland firefighting companies that are in your local. You can also talk to someone from the department of forestry who deals with firefighting. Alot of times the companies have to be listed on a contract with the state.

You can get on these companies sometimes with no experience and they will teach you. however if you go in with exp. then so much the better.. How to get it can sometimes be a problem.

The state forestry guy might be able to help you by letting you know where classes are held. Also, if you have a state fire college or fire academy, the instructors there could give advice where to turn for the courses.. MAKE SURE however that the course is good for the contract fire departments and not just for local departments.

There is a group called NWCG, somewhere on their website lists the classes that you need for various positions AND sometimes where classes can be taken.. MOST contractors need NWCG certified classes to work for em.

As far as money, it depends.. some years you might make 30 or even 40K with experience, other times, you can barely pay your bills during fire season, and alot of them have part time jobs that they work at until they get called up.
Reply:Go for it. I'm from Hawaii and I flew out to Oregon to fight fire for about two and half months last summer and I made about seven grand. It's an amazing experience and worth it even for coming from Hawaii! Report Abuse

How much money do you have left after bills?

I ask because I just bought my first place yesterday. My boyfreind and I stay with about $1100.00 after paying bills that includes everything food, mortgage, gas, credit cards (only have one), insurance, etc. Is that sufficient money left after paying bills?

How much money do you have left after bills?
Negative $62,000 and some change U.S.
Reply:yes it is half should go into savings
Reply:YOU MEAN, HOW MANY OTHER BILLS DO I HAVE AFTER MY EXPENSES HAVE BEEN DEPLETED FROM OTHER BILLS
Reply:most people have zero left.
Reply:That should be enough if you save what you don't spend.
Reply:Not much because I have over extended my investments. Try to invest yours too.
Reply:I mean that would depend on your lifestyle. What do you do for leisure or recreation? How can you ask this to people who dont know you from adam?
Reply:That's a fortune!
Reply:You have a nice amount left over; be sure to save that every month -- either for your emergency fund or your retirement or just for extra savngs.

I actually budget savings FIRST, rather than saving what happens to be left over. I save over $1,000 per month in my 401(k) and max out my Roth IRA every year, but I don't save anything beyond that (because I already have an emergency fund, CD's, and a nice portfolio of stocks and bonds).

How much money do you need to have a debit card?

Also, what are some good ways to make money around the house, by, basically doing chores. I really need some extra cash so I go shopping!

How much money do you need to have a debit card?
To open a checking account at Bank of America--the plan is called My Access Checking Account, in case you're interested--you need $25. However, once the account is open, there is no minimum amount required to keep the account active. In other words, you need $25 to start the checking account, but you could take all $25 out afterward and that'd be fine. (I'd recommend not doing that, though.) Debit cards are almost always free through your checking account. Some checking accounts have monthly fees, but there are options to avoid that, like opening up a savings account or enrolling in direct deposit through your job. But when I checked out the Bank of America deal, there's an online offer going on right now that doesn't ask you to pay any account fees.

As far as what chores you could do, you have to consult with your parents or guardians about that. Assuming that they'll pay you for anything is premature. Be honest with them - say you'd like to earn some extra money and that you were wondering if there were any chores they need done. Then ask what your compensation would be for doing those chores. If you want to be really adventurous, you could offer to do chores for your neighbors, especially elderly neighbors or neighbors with physical disabilities. Those people need help the most and would probably be willing to hand over five or ten bucks once in a while.

Some good chores are:

-laundry

-house cleaning

-lawn mowing

-taking the garbage out

-feeding pets

-dusting

-mopping
Reply:At most banks, there is a minimum deposit that you need to make to open an account. This is usually the same amount that you'll need to get a debit card through your bank.
Reply:You don't need ANY money to get a debit card. All you need is a checking account. It is actually possible to have an EMPTY checking account. I don't recommend it, but it it can be done.
Reply:Ask yourself:

What can I do that people would be willing to pay me $____ to do?

Fill in the blank with a whole number denomination between $1 and $100, and try to think of something that people would actually pay you that dollar value to do.

When you add it up, you will realize that you can make more money per hour as an entrepreneuer, than what you would be paid per hour as an employee working for minimum wage.

The key is to be paid per transaction instead of per hour.

Imagine you found a summer job that paid you $6 an hour. Working 8 hours, your gross income (before taxes) would be only $48 dollars.

Now, asking the question:

What can I do that people would be willing to pay me $20 to do?

You would make $20 in a single transaction for doing something that may take you only 15 minutes. If you have three clients and can service them all in one hour, your gross income would be $60 per hour.

If you had enough clients to fill an 8 hour day (3 clients @ $60 an hour), that would be 24 clients each paying you $20 for a total gross of $480 for an 8 hour day (compared to $48 dollars @ $6 an hour).

That is 10 times the revenue you would make above minimum wage for the same amount of time.

How much money would it cost for a 1 week trip to Amsterdam?

Hi, me and a few buddies are wondering how much for it would cost to take a trip to Amsterdam for 7 days. Me and a few friends have been saving up most of the money we make, and are planning to go in 2 years, (grade 12).

Also, for weed in Amsterdam, do you need to be 18?

Thanks alot.

How much money would it cost for a 1 week trip to Amsterdam?
HAHA sounds like my friends and I when we were in high school...a plane ticket would cost you around more or less $1000 round trip if you book it far in advanced...food and "play" money for 7 days? I would save at most $500 just to stay safe...than there's the hotel...depends where you would like to stay...At a 5 star? you're looking at maybe $300 a night...However, if you stay in a hostel it will cost you WAYYY less...you're looking at about a $3000 - $4000 trip if you want to go all out...Also, big misconception...weed is not legal in Amsterdam, it's just highly decriminalized, and the cops will just look the other way if you're just smoking...I'm not sure about the 18+ thing, but I wouldn't even worry about it unless you'd like to go into bars and stuff (but even than I wouldn't worry too much)...I mean, c'mon now, it's Amsterdam!!
Reply:It depends what you want to do there.
Reply:For weed in Holland (yes, the weed stores are all over the country) you have to be 16 years old. Drinking beer 2. A gram weed costs like 5 are 6 dollars (7 euros). It deppents what you want to eat there.

How much money should you start with in order to invest in the stock market?

What is an appropriate starting amount of money you should have available in order to begin building a portfolio, considering that online brokerage firms charge fees for transactions? Is it appropriate to invest something as small as $100 or is that fairly pointless due to brokerage fees? How about $250, $500, $1000, $2000, $5000, $10,000? What would you recommend to a friend as being the least amount (in dollars) to invest and still make it 'worth their time'?

How much money should you start with in order to invest in the stock market?
Nah, sharebuilder.com will accomodate those smaller amounts. Scottrade starts with $500. Oodles you can do with that. Be aware though, there is a real difference between investing (long term) and trading.

As for the part about recommending to a friend, well, I had to steer a friend around the melt-down when he was nuts about Krispy Kreme and the founder of the company was going nuts because it had grown beyond his abilities. My friend came out okay and he used sharebuilder. Another was nuts about Starbucks and used Scottrade (which may be a good idea, for the long term, the current down turn in the market may make it cheap). What companies are you simply crazy about? I used to work for and owned a share or two of Phillips Petroleum (which merged with Conoco and current symbol is COP). Until the Venezuela confiscation, they were doing pretty well, it too might be pretty cheap. The question is, is owning a piece of your interesting company worth more than the interest that money in the bank will earn you? That is investing. Trading, on the other hand, is often a glorified way of saying (trying my best poor impression of Clint Eastwood), "So, do you feel lucky? Do ya?" As commonly practiced, trading is a gamble, but the issue is not whether your company is doing a really good job, but are people really wanting to own those shares, and did you buy them before so they have someone to buy from (you)? It gets complicated sometimes.
Reply:It's depend your money that you have.

In my opinion, you can learn first forex trading (due to it's analysis is almost the same with stock trading). In forex you can start with no money down.

So you can start to invest in stock market with 0usd :)

Reply:How much to invest really depends on what your investment objectives are.

If you are after short term, monthly income trading, then you will need to work backwards based on your trading ability. If your lowest monthly return is about 20%, (which I do not think so because you sound like a newbie) then you will have to work out how much you need to invest in order for that 20% to meet your monthly income needs.

(one caveat here, please do not start out trading thinking you will definitely make money... sorry, 95% of the traders out there lose money)

If you are after a long term investment strategy by investing a fixed amount of money monthly into an instrument such as the QQQQ, then even $100 a month works out to be pretty significant when you retire.

Again, you will probably not make any money when you first start off because you do not have a proven trading system. I lost about a million dollars before I perfected my trading system and made it all back. Check it out at : http://www.mastersoequity.com

Reply:Great question. Ideally, there is no ideal amount, but with the advent of brokerages that charge 7-12 dollars or more for each trade, then it would make sense to have this amount be roughly no more than 1% of your portfolio. For instance, if you start with about 100 dollars, and then have one trade that costs 7 dollars, that cost just took out 7% of your portfolio! This is ridiculous considering that the avergae yearly return on the market is 8%. Assuming youve earned that 8% after a year (which most people can never earn because theyre too diversified and inpatient) that leaves you with a whopping 1% earning on your investment. That doesnt even keep up with inflation, and you couldve gotten at least 4% risk free in an ing savings account! I would suggest starting with about 1000 and just choose 1 stock that you are confident in holding for the next 10 years or more (do your hw: stock should be cheap with a PE ratio of under 15, great management, great competitive advantage, and a product that does not need to be redesigned every year, ie coca cola as opposed to pfizer). Keep builiding up on your equity in this stock, and if you must, eventually diversify into a maximum of 5 companies total. Keep the commission costs low, and just buy and hold. I would study warren buffett's philosophy if you dont agree with buy and hold. If it worked for him, why not follow his advice?
Reply:It depends on the commissions you pay, how actively you invest, and if your broker has any 'service' fees (ie requires you to pay simply for having an account open) or minimum holding requirements.

Try Zecco (www.zecco.com) which apparently has no comissions, service fees or minimum account balance requirements (note, read the fine print before you sign up to make sure I'm right about this.)

In general the market goes up 10-12% per year-- paying a 10% comission on a $100 investment is therefore kind of pointless.

If you only have a few hundred dollars try investing in an index mutual fund/exchange traded fund (try IVV, SPY). These allow you to own a little stock in a lot of companies which is much safer than picking one or two stocks. Just buy and hold.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Oh, and the guy who says you need a million bucks is nuts.
Reply:You can open an account at Scottrade with as little as a $500 deposit, there are no minimum number of transactions (trades) required and no inactivity fees or account maintenance. Scottrade has a flat rate ($7) for most online market and limit equity orders, regardless of your trade frequency, account balance, or the number of shares in a transaction.

However, some other important things to consider are; the reason you're investing (for short term enjoyment or long range goals such as college, a new home, or retirement), the risk associated with the various investments, and then choosing the investment, or mix of investments, that are right for you.

As far as the actual trading transactions themselves, opening a trading account with Scottrade is easy (you can apply online). It is only $7.00/trade for stocks priced over $1 per share, regardless of your trade frequency or the number of shares in a transaction.

You can compare the commissions/fees of several brokerage firms at: http://www.scottrade.com/online_broker_c...

I hope you find this information useful. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I'd be happy to help.

I am guessing it is more like 1,000.
Reply:you have to know why you're investing in the stock markets and what your long range financial plan is to honestly answer this question.

For a swing trader [three to ten day average holding time], I'd estimate the minimum capitalization at $100,000. Of course, this has to make sense in the context of your overall financial plan, so I'd say you need to be worth at least $1 million.

For other traders with different plans, lesser or greater amounts would be appropriate.

Reply:With $18, you could probably buy one share of a microcap index, called PZI, so that's the minimum you need to invest with Zecco. Hopefully, that's not too much? Zecco has revolutionized the small investor as they charge nothing to trade. Thus, I'd fund the account with about $250 and start trading. However, make sure it's a taxable individual mutual fund account and not a retirement account as they charge $30 per year for retirement accounts. Because PZI is speculative, normally you wouldn't invest more than 5% of your investment portfolio in it. VTI, EFA, VGK, and VPL tend to be slightly to moderately less volatile.

Zecco used to have a minimum of $2,500 and they have since gotten rid of that limit. The NASD imposes a $2K minimum on margin accounts. I'd say the minimum was one share of VTI or about $150. You can buy a share of VV for $65, VGK for $72.65, VPL for for $69.55, and EFA for $77.64; that would be an extremely diversified portfolio with a total investment required of around $434.84 (and you can buy one investment at a time).

They charge ZERO commissions and were featured on CNBC. I would give them a try. You might want to buy one share of 5 stocks as well if you think you're an excellent stock picker.

The five stocks I would pick are: ADBE, JCP, OXY, WM, and CAT. GOOG is a great company to own as well at $512 per share.

In any event, you must have a good emergency fund to cover emergencies. That's why I only suggest starting the account with $250. Get used to it, build an E-Fund, and then and only then increase your investment in your Zecco account. Scottrade, Fidelity, and Vanguard are places I want you to fund your RothIRA.

How can I start saving money now for an expensive summer program next year?

I recently recieved an information packet in the mail about Junior Statesmen Summer School! It's a 3-week program designed to help high-school students who are interested in politics to get a head start. I am very excited about this opportunity! However, since almost all of the courses are college-level and I am only in eighth grade right now, I want to wait another year before applying. In the meantime, I need to start saving some money. The total cost for the 3 weeks is $4,150! My family will not be able to afford to contribute very much to that. I will apply for a partial scholarship (I'm guessing about $1000-$2000, but I don't know how much they will give me), but I will have to raise most of the rest of it by myself. I am already babysitting and mowing lawns. What else can I do that will help me earn money?

How can I start saving money now for an expensive summer program next year?
If you are good with pets...Think about a "Pet babysitting" service. Where you go to the homes of those who are on vacation to feed and water their pets and just give them a wee bit of attention. It is something that does not take money for you to start it.

Also you could try things like offering to type papers for people in high school and charging like $10 a paper (depending on how long the paper is, of course). Set up a lemonade stand if you have to! lol. Try some odds-and-ends things, or even selling things at a flea market.

How should $40K in gift money for a first time home purchase be distibuted to avoid taxes?

My in-laws are being gracious enough to gift $40K. How should the money be transffered so as to avoid having to pay taxes on it. We are a family of four, myself, wife, and two sons (ages 5-9). If the answer involves giving gifts to the kids, how does gift money get to hime builder?

How should $40K in gift money for a first time home purchase be distibuted to avoid taxes?
You have no tax consequences from the gift although your in-laws might as gift taxes are assessed on the donor, not the recipient. The annual Gift Tax exclusion amount is currently $12,000 per recipient for each donor. To avoid the Gift Tax, they each can give you and your wife $20,000. Bingo, no Gift Tax.
Reply:Cool. TFTP Report Abuse

Reply:If each of the in-laws gives $10K each to you and to your spouse (four $10K checks) then the gifts are below the reporting requirements.

Giving the money to the children would just complicate things - you do NOT want to do that.
Reply:A couple can give $20K to an individual without incurring gift taxes, so have them give $20K to you and $20K to your wife.
Reply:Put it in a RRSP. You save paying tax if it goes directly into purchasing a home, and in the meantime, you also get intrest building.
Reply:This is easy, The gift exclusion per person is more than 10K now but lets us 10k to keep it simple.

Your in laws, I assume there are two of them each give you and your wife 10k each. They each have given 2 gifts of 10k each. So they've transferred 40k to you without using the any of the life time exclusion.

If they wanted to give you more then that they could also file a gift tax return and use part of thier life time exemption, but that counts agasint their estate when they decide to take the long dirt nap.
Reply:The other answers are basically correct except that the annual exclusion is now 12,000 per year per donee. If they gift from a joint checking account each is gifting 20,000. If they make out checks to you jointly that is 10,000 for each of you from each of them and under the 12,000 limit. If they fail to do this they would need to file a gift tax return Form 709 and use up some of their lifetime exemption of 1 million. Still no tax due.

How much money can you make owning a retail store?

I want to sell clothing of various brand names. I already have potential suppliers. My store will not be that big at all. How much money seroiusly can I make in a retail business?

How much money can you make owning a retail store?
This is a very rediculous question. You can make as much money as you are finacially smart in running your business. Everything is based on supply and demand. Why does FAO Schwarz make more money than Toys R us? Why does Toys R Us make more money then KB Toys? Why does KB make more money then the MOM and POP toy store on the corner? It is all about vision, hard work, and know how. If you are smart enough to have a clothing store like the Gap or just Jacks Clothes of Nowheresville, that only the people of Nowheresville ever heard of... So work hard and find out how much money you can make there is no ceiling on this market so just go for it...
Reply:you can do this in your extra time to increase your profit visit the link below for details.
Reply:I support lost soul's answer. For a retailer to succeed it depends also on your locality and how well you can equip with stocks and how fast you can replenish them since your store is not that big.

What's the difference between borrowing money from a bank, and getting it from a venture capitalist?

Why would someone get money from a venture capitalist instead of a bank?

What's the difference between borrowing money from a bank, and getting it from a venture capitalist?
easy answer -- Banks give "small" Loans , houses cars personal etc ,, usually venture capitalists give loans for companies looking to invest in something and usually large scale ( yea ita a bit more complicated than that but its a short answer ) - more info below
Reply:When you borrow money from a bank, you have to pay it back with interest. When a VC gives you money, you have to give the investors partial ownership in return. They are hoping you succeed so that they can sell their stake in your company, and that is how they make their money back.

Since VCs own part of your company, they may have some control on how you run the place. They can be useful if they have connections to help you sell or partner, and they may have access to more funding if needed down the road.

Here are some ideas:

* Grab an old bed sheet nobody in your house cares about; cut eyeholes in it; and go as a ghost.

* Look through any old trunks and other clothing storage boxes you might have lying around your house. You might very well find some old clothes in there that you could use to make a decent Halloween costume.

* Check out your local thrift store. You should be able to find some good costumes for sale there for no more than a few dollars.

Where is a good place to identify and appraise international paper money?

I found a plastic bag full of foreign money in an estate sale that goes back to the early 20th century. I am not sure where some of the paper money is from. Does anyone know of a good online website that would help identify the foreign money and appraise it's net worth?

Where is a good place to identify and appraise international paper money?
There are a few sites out there that may help in figuring out what you have but none for values. I have the new Standard Catalog of World Paper Money but oney the 1961-present volume. The other two are in the $70 range each and since coins are my main focus I get the coin books, the world coin ones to cover 1601-2008 are over $250 for the set. You will have to find a world coin and paper money dealer in your area. That may not be easy for there are not lots of them. You can do a google search yourself by typing in world paper money. I found sites that way a few minutes ago. It may take a while to locate and price each one. If you have a large library near you they may have all the paper money catalogs. Prices are retails but dealers sell for way less sometimes 50% less. This is the best I can do.

How do i get my census money from the IRS?

When i did my taxes i had my tax return direct deposited into my bank account. A few weeks ago i closed that account because of some fraudulent transactions. How would i receive the census money if my account is now closed?

How do i get my census money from the IRS?
That is "Economic Stimulus Rebate". the answer to your question is asked and answered on the IRS website FAQ's. www.irs.gov

Q. If a taxpayer provides incorrect direct deposit information and his or her refund is returned to the IRS, will the IRS also attempt to directly deposit the stimulus payment into the "bad" account?

A. Once a payment is returned to the IRS, a paper check will be issued both for the original refund and for the stimulus payment. [New 4/11/08]

You can find out status by entering your specific info in...then contact someone immediately, or it will be returned to IRS.
Reply:The bank will reject the deposit and notify the IRS, and they'll mail you a paper check.

How can I help without giving my money to telemarketers?

50% or more of money given to non-profit relief funds and agencies that work in africa and elsewhere goes straight into the hands of the money-hungry organization itself without ever reaching those you intended to help. How can I actually do some good without squandering my money on liars and their inflated advertising costs?

How can I help without giving my money to telemarketers?
I'm assuming you want to help with natural disaster relief or something along those lines? I would do a clothes/food/bottled water/toiletry drive in your area. I'm sure that the local raido/tv/newspaper would love to help advertise for this kind of thing. If you actually get the products yourself you can donate them to the Red Cross or other victim relief organization. This will keep your money from going to waste. Good luck!!!
Reply:to avoid this, first you have to see their actual beneficiaries. second, talk to them and know the service that was or had been given by the organization. next, talk to the organization representative and the beneficiary together. last, tell the organization where do you want your money to be funded to in their available services.

3,000 buckaroos, kid. It's 18 sir. Everyone has VD and the weed thing is not what you think. It's still regulated, costs a lot and you can only smoke it in smoke shops. So, if you think you can run around Amsterdam like a rasta chimney you are only dreaming a pipe dream indeed. Hey, but you will have fun!
Reply:About 2,000.....please take me with you!! lol.
Reply:That depends on how many drugs and hookers you are planning on using... It could cost you anywhere between 2000 and 100000, lol....

Yeah, I would like to go too.... Sounds like alot of fun!

And I think you do need to be 18, but im sure it would be pretty easy to get some anyway... I mean, its illegal here and pretty easy so....

Where and how can I find people to donate money to help us buy the church?

My grandfather is a preacher. After being a pastor at many churchs he decided to start his own. He and some fellow members found a church. Where and how can I find people to donate money to help us buy the church? The people that own it are being nice enough to let us use it till July. Where we live the economy is poor. We need 60,000.00. What ever money is donated and not used we plan to send back. And if we do not raise enough money before July we plan to return all donations to the people who sent them. Where and how can I find people to donate money to help us buy the church?

How much money does it take to permanently move to another state?

I have around a year to raise the money.

How much money does it take to permanently move to another state?
You need to find out the cost of living in the state and city that you plan to move to.

Do you have a job already lined up? If not, then you might want to have enough saved to get by on until you find one.

I think a good rule of thumb would be to have enough saved to pay rent, utilities, and food for at least 4-5 months.

Good luck on your move!

How to do my husband and I stop spending money on stupid stuff and start putting money in the bank?

Our income is not very significant, but we should have some money in the bank. We are living paycheck to paycheck and seem to waste money on going out to eat, etc. We also have two teen daughters that are draining us. We have no money in the bank and have tried for years to change our spending issues. How do we start saving and stop these bad spending habits??

How to do my husband and I stop spending money on stupid stuff and start putting money in the bank?
Everyone has to be part of the solution - kids included.

Post your budget on the fridge to remind everyone they have a stake in this. Pain that it is, writing down EVERYTHING for a couple of months will cure the problem.

First, add up all your income per pay period - month, week, biweekly, whatever.

Then add up all your "fixed" expenses to match the pay period (multiply rent x 12 then divide by 52 to get weekly, etc.)(estimate using highest electricity bill, telephone bill, etc.) and ADD A NEW ITEM CALLED "BANK" THAT IS 10% OF YOUR INCOME.

Subtract the expenses from your income. Now you know what you have to spend on groceries, gas, clothes, etc. etc.

When your paycheck comes in, put it directly into your bank, and put 10% directly into your savings account - this matches your budget. Some banks will automatically do this for you if you ask them to.

Whenever anyone spends anything, have them subtract it from the remaining money and WRITE DOWN WHAT IT IS FOR. Everyone can see where the $$ are going, and you'll see exactly what is happening and so will everyone else. Having the whole family seeing and supporting a reasonable budget is the best way to go - and a great lesson for your children.
Reply:Just try your best to stop spending on what isn't important in life. Of course everyone needs the basic necessities of life like food, clothes, shelter. But, can you really afford going out to eat? Eating out is expensive. Only eat out if you HAVE to. What I mean is it a special occasion for going out and eat like someone's birthday? If it isn't then why are you going out? Also, if your teen daughters are draining you out, tell them that you DON'T have any money in the bank. Teenagers love to spend, so if they really HAVE to have a particular item just to be part of the crowd, tell them to get a job (if they are old enough).
Reply:1. Stop going to eat. Learn to cook and don't go out to eat.

2. Set a goal of saving XX dollars per week

3. Put your teen daughters on a budget and show them how to use ebay. You want some sell several things on ebay and then buy the new thing you want on ebay.

4. Grow up. Stop being so juvenile that you have to have the latest and greatest piece of crap.

If you know something is a problem change it.
Reply:Save by paying yourself first. Set up a pre-auth debit to a savings account with a diff bank, and lock your debit card to that savings acct in your safety deposit box. If you believe that you can save the money, when you don't have access to it, you'll find that you won't even miss it! Good luck!
Reply:get a savings account and lock your money for periods of time
Reply:Make a list separately of what you all want, enjoy, need - yes mom, dad and daughters pay no attention to order or anything else.

Then get together and compare, here you can eliminate or even add to a single list you agree on. Then place them in order of importance, please no arguing - if it is important to you (or him, or them) then it is - no matter what you (or he/they) think. Now we have a list, next place a time next to them. House - 3 years, vacation - 1 year etc. Then put dollar amounts next to them - house deposit needed $10,000 divide that by 36 (3yearsx12) you now have a monthly value. Once you have done this you will see that you have monthly values for the things you are trying to do. Then add up everything and get a monthly total. You'll either have enough to do it all or not enough to do it all. Then sit down again and work out what you can eliminate or reduce - eating out once every two months is cheaper than eating out every week. House deposit in 4 years instead of three etc - Once you can see what you can achieve, and you are all on board, then it is easy to do. This may take a few talks, so get coffee/milk and cookies and sit in a nice and comfortable room.

Your teen daughters will have their own goals, and if you can show them that by saving money, together as a family, then you can all get a better return. This will be by being able to afford whatever it is each of you have as a need. Try your best to differentiate between need and want. For example: We want a Ferrari, but we only need a Geo. The money saved here, can be used for a better roof for our house, help pay for college, get new bed for daughters, etc., etc.

Good Luck!
Reply:Make a spending plan. Spend your money On Purpose. Don't leave a vacuum, because your impulses will fill the void with wasteful expenses. Learn your own spending habits. Wasteful spending is like a schoolyard Bully, and must be confronted with a plan so your money has purpose, rather than wings.
Reply:Self disipline is the only way. Make a budget and stick to it no matter what.
Reply:when you get paid work out how much you need for groceries and bills with a little extra for unexpected expenses and a few treats

put the rest you don't want to spend in a savings account that you can't have easy access to (so no debit cards or checks)

it will still be there if you absolutely need it, you just wont be as tempted to spend your savings on things you dont need

you can also try paying the teenages an alowance for going out and buying their own clothes etc if they're reponsible enough, that way they have to save up the cash instead of coming to you every time they want something and they might learn to handle their money better
Reply:YOU NEED TO MAKE A BUDGET, AND SET SOME GOALS.

I RAISED 3 GIRLS TOO, TELL YOUR HUSBAND GOD

BLESS AND GOOD LUCK, HE'S GONNA' NEED IT
Reply:alright. first, to resolve the problem with your daughters, simply tell them no when they ask for something unreasonable. are they 16 or over? if they want money so bad then they should work for it (my mom's doing the same for me after i got my car. now i have to pay for insurance and gas).

second, you need to start using will power to cease the unnecessary spending. before you spend money, ask yourself "will we have enough money to pay our bills if we buy this?" or something like "what if we'll need this money if an emergency arises?"

my third and final suggestion would be to put a certain amount of money from your paycheck in the bank every time you get paid. this way, you will have money when you need it. when the end of the year comes and you dont need it, you can spend some of it on christmas presents or something.

What are some really really good ways to fundraise money for a trip?
1. Sell stuff you no longer want or need in a tag/garage sale. Ask friends and family to chip it some items for the sale that they don't want to bother with or don't want or need either.

2. Print up some flyers offering your "handy" Andy or Anne talents, ie: mowing lawns, washing windows, babysitting, cleaning gutters, etc.

3. Look to friends and family to help "sponsor" you. Ask if they might chip in $10 each to help defray costs.

4. Look to local businesses to maybe assist, like restaurants that serve food from areas you are going to visit. Maybe offering local pics of eateries in France to some local French restaurants in your town or surrounding areas.

5. Make copies of some of your pictures from your trip and sell them.

6. Do some research online to see what other people in areas that you are going to may want from America. On one of my trips to Jamaica, I found that the locals were VERY interested in rope and good American jeans. So I bought some quality jeans with good designer names from my local Salvation Army and bought some nice good quality rope in bulk from a local hardware shop. Took me 2 days and I wish I had packed less of my own clothes and more jeans and rope. Could have practically paid for the whole trip with those two SIMPLE items. Just pick wisely.

7. Buy some of that fund raiser candy, candles, whatnots, etc and sell it.

8. Get a JOB!

9. Act as a translator for tour groups if you are fluent in a European language in the countries you will be visiting and ask the tour group to pay a $1 or $2 per person each day.

Good luck and hope you have a wonderful, memorable time.

How can i recieve transfer of money from America to the Netherlands?

i am living in the netherlands, have a dutch Rabobank account but what does she need to send money from her american credit union account so that it can transfer properly? Please help!! fast!! :)

How can i recieve transfer of money from America to the Netherlands?
I don't have Rabobank but do have ABN Amro and we send money abroad to my husband's family (we have been building a house there). Paypal is an option but it is slow

Western Union is actually more expensive than a bank-to-bank transfer (at least for the values that we were sending anyway).

So we sent it via internet banking - bank to bank. Get her to check with her bank what details they need - likely she will need your account number, location, holder's name, IBAN and BIC codes (usually on your statements)

You can read more in English on the ABN Amro pages here http://www.abnamro.nl/en/prive/betalen/b...
Reply:Ask her to check with her bank a few things first. What they recommend being the fastest and also safest way. Also look into the fees involved. I was going to send money to Germany to pay for an ebay auction I won. The transaction fee is set buy the amount of money to be sent and for the $100.00 my bank said there was a $50.00 fee. At the time my bank charge $50.00 up to the first $1000 sent. I sent cash and took a chance on not getting lost in mail and also seller being honest when it was received. All worked out for me there.

As for paypal sometime theres a week for things to clear internationaly and also a small fee involved but not like my bank was charging. I trust paypal and have used them for years both in America and now internationaly. My last paypal transaction issued a E-check took 5 days to clear but that might be how the business was sent up to recieved payments too.

Western Unions are all over if you have access to one and she does too? again ask about the fees nothing is free anymore well almost nothing is free.

What ever you choice please post back to help others that might be looking to do the same.

I hope I have helped in some way with ideas. That is the positive thing about the internet ... at times answers can be found

Reply:Your best bet would be to look into some sort of money transfer company like western union or something that works for international transactions. Do you have PayPal? If you have your bank info it's not hard to set up.

How does a booking agency make money to pay the agents and their commission?

How does a booking agency make money to pay the agents and their commission?
No money is paid out until your clients start bringing money in. As soon as the band gets $1Million advance for their new record, the agency takes $150,000 and writes a check to the band for $850,000. Out of the $150,000 the owner of the agency pays the utility bill and the rent and the agent's fee or commission. The agent herself might be getting a set fee instead of a percentage..

What are some fundraisers teenagers can do with little money?
bake sales car washes skits where admission is going toward the trip. Class actions including thing likke artwork on pictures ortime capsule May be auction your selves off for yard work. Maybe you should have a movie night for the younger kids in you school or even another school and hve admission be like 6 dollars and have smart food popcorn and water for snacks and if yo have a projector play one movie or you could have different movies in differnt rooms with same thing. sorta like a babysitting thing. You could also do a weekend daycare where half the class watches kids on satruday from a certain time t o a certain time and sunday with ther other half charge like 5 dollasrs an hour. Have fun.
Reply:Irish has given you the jest of fund raisers done in our area,

How much money do I get per dependant that I claim?

My wife and I have 2 kids and claim 0 on our w-2's. We get approximately 2500 in tax return.

I don't want a tax return. I would rather use the money to pay off debt. I don't want to pay a tax bill either.

How much should I withold and how much should I claim?

How much money do I get per dependant that I claim?
I recommend that you complete this

http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0...

If you experience any changes throughout the year, you can always re-do your W-4's for you and/or spouse.

good luck %26amp; bless
Reply:You should claim 4 on yours and 0 on hers. If both of you contribute on a 401k, then that should also help lower your taxes.

Visit the following sites:

Reply:Judging from what you have written, it is better for you to claim 2 on your W4 and your wife the same also. That way all four dependents are accounted for and you will be getting the most money on your payday.

How much money MINIMUM do you have to make to be able to file your taxes and get the child tax credit?

My friend is married filing jointly and has 3 children. She was wondering what the minimum amount of money is that you have to make in order to be able to file taxes and claim the child tax credit for her children. Thank you in advance for any answers.

How much money MINIMUM do you have to make to be able to file your taxes and get the child tax credit?
As I read the table on page 53 of the instructions to the Form 1040, you must have at least $1.00 of earned income to claim the EIC. The Child Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit and can't reduce your tax liability below 'zero'. However, you MAY qualify for the "Additional Child Tax Credit" which is refundable. Figuring the amount of income required to claim it was to much work. I linked the 1040 instructions and 'Additional Child Tax Credit" form below.
Reply:Actually, three kids is the magic number. Generally, the child tax credit can only be used to offset your taxes. The credit is limited to the lesser of $1,000 per child or your tax liability for the year. However, when you have three children or more, the child tax credit is not limited based on the above and it can actually generate a refund situation. So even if she had no taxable income, she could still file a return and get a $3,000 tax refund for the child tax credit.
Reply:Believe it or not, just one dollar. She should ge a pretty good chunk of cash back with the Child Tax Credit and possibly EIC.

The answerer beneath me is wrong. Even if you only had one child, the portion of the Child Tax Credit that didn't offset your taxes would be refundable. So if you had no tax, the full 1000 for the credit would turn into a refund. It makes no matter how many children their are. So if she has no tax witholdings whatsoever, and three children, then she would get at least a 3000 return.

How much money can you earn while you are on Social Security?

Is $900 ? Or is $850? How many hours a week can person getting Social Security and SSI work without going over thier monthy limit of money they can earn a month and losing their Social Security and SSI?

Is there any chance that they will one day change the limt per month?

Thanks for the help!

How much money can you earn while you are on Social Security?
For 2007, the annual limit of earnings while on social security is $12,960 if you're under retirement age for the entire year.

If you will reach full retirement age in 2007, the limit on your earnings for the months before full retirement age is $34,440.

Starting with the month you reach full retirement age, you can get your benefits with no limit on your earnings.

Working while you receive social security benefits could mean a higher benefit for you in the future.
Reply:call your local ss office,,,i pray you have speaker phone so you can at least take a dump and read the paper while you wait for an answer.

Of course it will change....I won't see ss when my time arrives...I'm in my 30's, I've been working since I was 15 and well hell..... I'm not counting on ss and god knows my child won't get it.
Reply:not much , start saving in your own personal account
Reply:You need to get real job, the ss benefit that you will earn we have to pay for it ''we'' the hard workers, and tax payers, you should not think like that, trying to found out how to go around the system...
Reply:There is NO limit on the amount of money you can earn while collecting Social Security. SSI is a different story.

Your social security income will be subject to income tax if you exceed certain thresholds, but will not be reduced.

How much money would you recommend we have on hand for a grage sale?

We've got a garage sale coming up on Saturday. How much money would be wise to have for making change? We've got items ranging from the $150.00 mark all the way down to $0.10. Any suggestions for the amounts of each denomination? Would appreciate the input from any seasoned yard sale professionals. This is our first garage sale.

How much money would you recommend we have on hand for a grage sale?
I would suggest that you have about 50$ mostly in ones and change down to dimes
Reply:have lots of singles (40 would be a good start) , fives (perhaps 60) and probably 60 in tens....

Twenties are the most common bill for people to have on hand now a days and for a purchase that is a few bucks you will obviously have to give the majority of that back.

I would say having 10 bucks in quaters and about 5 bucks in dimes, and a dollar or so in nickles.

Good luck
Reply:I always get a roll each of nickles, dimes and quarters. On the paper side I get $50.00 in singles, 6-$5.00 bills and 2-$10.00 bills.

I never use pennies and price items so pennies are not involved.

That totals $117.00. It works well with us. I also will take personal checks, however I write down the drivers license information and take a digital picture of the person.
Reply:you should always have enough change handy. for the items that are about 10 cents, you always have small change like that, because most people don't carry around 10 cents! they will probably pay with loonies. for the 150 dollars, the buyer may go home to get a truck if its something big, if so, they will probably get the correct change. so you will need tens and twenty's also!
Reply:well,if u got $150.00 in the sale all together i would have at least $200.00 bc sometimes when people buy something and when your ready to give their change back say, like their going to buy some in 1.20-1.50 range, they'll give u 2.00 they'll say, keep the change.so,thats extra.i do that when i buy something from someone i tell them keep the change it helps u out alittle.but u would have $200.00 that way u have enough.or between $200.00-225.00

How much money does it cost to earn an associates degree?

How much would it cost to get an associates degree? I know there is student loans but that will cost money too in the long run right, to pay off all those loans.

How much money does it cost to earn an associates degree?
To get an associates degree, the cost varies upon state and school. Is it a private college or isit funded by the state or federal government. In CA. when I got my AA at a state run community college the cost was $13.00 a unit. But a few years later it was $11.00 a unit. most AA degrees are between 36 and 42 units approx.

There are federal grants and loans available. The FASFA is a federal grant/loan option (which I highly reccommend) you can find them online. I can't remember what the accronym stands for but that was how I paid for more education. Not only my AA but my BA as well. There are also Pell Grants and other funds available. Some programs you will have to pay back. Those are usually loans. But you usally don't have to worry about paying those back for up to 6 months or more. And typically the monthly payments depend on the amount of the loans. I only had $5,000 to repay after receiving my BA, and I went to a private college. I would encourage you to go to the financial aid office of the school(s) you are considering attending and ask them about any and all programs they have. They will be more than willing to help you, I promise. Make sure that the school(s) you look into are accrediated (approved by a governing body that make sure their curriculum is up to scratch) if they are not then all of your hard work might be for nothing and you will wind up with nothing. That includes the AA or BA degree, transferable credits to other institutions, and the waste of valuable money and time, because you may have to start completely over. Also make sure that the college has the type of degree or emphasis that you are looking for or again you will be wasting your time. Go in and talk with an academic advisor and get an idea of what their college can offer. I hope this helps, good luck.
Reply:It depends on where you live..

In CA each unit per semester is about $26 dollars at community college, but here in WA the first 11 units per quarter are $74 each and then the price does down.

Wishing I had finished school in CA!

How much money can you make a month and still get wic and title 19 and food stamps?

I am not on assistance right now but might need to soon because my husband is leaving me and 2yr old son. How much money can you make and still get food stamps, wic and title 19? We have never been on this before.

How much money can you make a month and still get wic and title 19 and food stamps?
In indiana you can make 1300 before taxes and qualify for any assistance. It depends on dollar for dollar wahat you make. When I made 250 a week I got 76 a month. when I mad 200 a week I got 146. They put it in the computer. and give you a number. That is at least what they tell you.

WIC you can make a lot more and qualify. People on food stamps automatically qualify.

There is medicaid, in with the food stamps... that is free insurance for kids.

If you dont have insurance, try the hospitals around you and ask if they have discounted services or a sliding fee scale.

There is Section 8 which most of the time has a long waiting list... Try in house section 8. That is when apartments host there own section 8 and the waiting list may be weeks or months instead of years...

The phone companies over a service called lifeline... that is where you get your phone connected for free and get the tax taken off your phone bill... Call phone company for info...

There is also something called CCDF... that is free child care at licensed day cares as long as you work or are in school.

And try State colleges, most of them if you apply for pell grants make it to where you can go for free... actually get paid to go...

Some childrens musuems over discount programs

SOme YMCA over discounts on monthly membership... For my family we go for 20 a month.. and get 50% off sports...

At Christmas, lots of Churches will help with presents for children and food.

Some states have a phonenumber you can call to ask for referrals.. If there is a crisis pregnancy center by you, they should have a list of places that help.

There are lots out there you just have to research. When you go for your food stamps appointment ask where you can go for help.
Reply:Do a google search including your state and WIC or food stamps. That should give you the answer.

I think all states also have a work assistance program to help you find a job. Your state might also have an aid to dependent children program to pay your son's medical expenses.
Reply:The amount of your benefits will be on a sliding scale and they'll adjust it by the amount of your wages. Each state has different rules as to how much you can earn and still keep the benefits. They look at utility bills, mortgage payments or rent payments, how much you have in the bank or other accounts, the value of your assets, and so on to figure the amount you may qualify for.

WIC isn't income-based, so you'll qualify for that just by applying for your son. You'll probably need his birth certificate and Social Security card with you when you apply.

Also, don't forget to apply for Medicaid for both of you, when you go down to the food stamp office. You'll need some kind of health insurance.

Also, once you start the divorce proceeding, you'll want to ask the court to have your son put onto your husband's health insurance plan through his job. They can order it. You'll also want to have it put into the divorce decree that he can't claim the dependency exemption on your son. That way, you don't ever have to worry about him claiming the child on his income tax returns. (Unless you want to be sweet and allow him to claim the child every other year.)

Just some things to think about.
Reply:Are you actually planning on working just enough to keep you busy but still receive government assistance?

Why don't you ask the WIC office if that is not your intention? My answer is, have DIGNITY %26amp; PRIDE and work full time. You won't be the only one to go through a rough time and I'm certain you will feel better if you can stand tall with your son on side. Please set a good example for him, for his sake and us taxpayers.

Government assistance is for people who really can't work - disabled, elderly.....
Reply:Does the fact that you have been on yahoo answers since 2006 have anything to do with your husband leaving
