How much money do you have to make to file your taxes?

I am currently wanting to get my child credit for the year but I have only one paycheck from a job this year for about $150. Can I still file and get money back?

How much money do you have to make to file your taxes?
Yes, you may file. Depending on all your deductions, exemptions, and credits you may or may not have a refund. You should always file even if you do not owe any taxes to avoid giving the IRS a reason to audit you in the future.
Reply:You won't owe any tax on that amount, so you wouldn't get a child tax credit since that can only reduce your tax to zero, and yours is already there.

If anything was withheld from the one paycheck, you could file and get that refunded. And if the child lived with you, you might be able to get about $60 for EIC - of course it might be a little tricky explaining to the IRS how you supported yourself and your child on $150 for the year.
Reply:If that was your only income for the entire year there's no need to file. However if any income tax was withheld from that check you'd need to file to have the taxes refunded to you.

Your income is way too low to get any benefit from the Child Tax Credit. You may be eligible for a small payment under the Earned Income Credit if you have a dependent child under age 17 living in your home with you. You'd have to file a tax return to collect that. At your income level the EIC would be $60 if you have one child or $70 if you have 2.
Reply:If the check was taxed then yes you can file any amount.
Reply:You're not going to much EIC at all if you're only income was $150. If you have some under the table income, it may be to your advantage to report it and get a larger credit.
