How to avoid spending money on unnecessary things at the mall?

I'm 15 %26amp; my mum would give me $35-$40 per week but I can never seem to have more than $100 in my wallet?

What bothers me more is that after a day in the mall [money gone] I start to regret. Like, I didn't exactly NEED those shoe or those headbands...

How do you save your money when hitting the mall/shops?

How to avoid spending money on unnecessary things at the mall?
Open a savings account so that whenever your mom gives you money you can make a deposit with some of it "before" you visit the mall.

Only take a small amount of money with you when you go to the mall.

Stay out of the mall and find other ways of enjoying yourself.

P.S. You're still very young so don't be too hard on yourself for your spending habits because wisdom and self-discipline will come when the time is right.
Reply:Don't bring a lot of money. $20 is enough, and if you spend it all, it's not that much.
Reply:Well what I would do is instead of spending money at the mall then just spend it online.
Reply:DOnt go
Reply:do not go to the mall, heck try the dollar store
Reply:Stay home more. Shop when you need things. Find some free things to do. Talk a walk, visit the park or a lake.
Reply:only bring i little bit of money as much as your comfortable spending. then you wont be able to spend it all so if you dont have any money left you wont have to worry about the temptation lol
Reply:Best option: DON'T go to the mail.

Second best: decide what you will by BEFORE you go and ONLY buy what is on your list.

Option 3: Never buy anything unless you still want it on your 3rd trip.
Reply:i have an idea. what i do, before i go to the mall, i make a list of the important things you need to buy. If that doesn't work, try storing half of your money in a piggy bank, so in that way, you're controlled with a limit. And while you are buying, you must always think first. Do you really need it?
Reply:Don't go to the Mall?

If you put $35 a week into a mutual fund earning 12% a year, it would be worth $5,000,000 by the time you retired!
Reply:cut off both your hands, then try buying stuff, it sucks
Reply:just dont spend ur money, and money earned is better than money received.
Reply:See if you could do some "pre-shopping" online and figure out what you want and how much it costs; bring only the exact amount of money you need to buy the items found online to the mall, buy them, and you won't have any money leftover to spend frivolously with. Or you could go to the mall one week, make a list of the things you want to buy, think about the list and edit/revise it as needed over the next week, then go back the following weekend and buy the things you decided you really wanted and needed. That way the purchases are well thought over and you'll learn how to make wise spending decisions :) hope the tips helped
Reply:dont go their
Reply:You could leave it at home. Or make a goal for yourself of having $200.00 before you can spend. Start really saving so you can buy your own car or house someday.
Reply:Leave the money somewhere inconvenient. Leave it at home and only bring it with you when you've had at least 24 hours to think about it. Or immediately after she gives you the money put it into a savings account. You really have to think ahead to use that money.
Reply:Take only a certain amount of money with you. Limit yourself to only $20 (or whatever) when you go to the mall and remind yourself that you do not need to buy anything at all. That way you won't have buyer's remorse as soon as you leave the mall.

Also, ask your mom to get you a savings account so you can start saving your money, it will be easier without the temptation.
Reply:put in a bank account and not carry it with you and find

something else to do besides go to the Mall.
Reply:easy, avoid the mall. or take $5 with you and thats all you can spend.

you are 15... NOW is the time to learn about managing money and saving for the future...

otherwise, you will be 30 and 40 someday and have debt and be broke.

not a fun place to be let me tell you. Save now. Start today
Reply:this is why it's so important for kids to learn financial discipline and personal finance. you need to look at what you spend that money on. on everything you get receipts and add it up. look at what you spend it on. also think of how much your mom works to give you that money. in fact, ask her to help you with this. have her go ove the family budget, and NOT talk about it with anyone, but just see what she does with her pay check. when you get older and start working get a debit account. pay for the overdraft protection and learn to keep track of it with the bank's website. MAKE SURE it's a bank that does NOT charge a monthly fee. start a savings account and commit some of your check to it every week. stay the HELL away from plastic! once you move on to your own place and pay your own utilities you can build your credit with paying your bills on time with online bill paying. give this all a try. and discipline yourself with your friends. no matter how much they bug you CONTROL yourself. it doesnt mean depriving yourself of fun but to realize you DO NOT need to have everything you want. learn to use coupons and bargain shop. you must do percentages in school. go over this with your teachers as it's an invaluable tool in shopping for anything. when you go for that first car go for a persons used car at leasrt 7 years old. pay cash. if things dont work out your not stuck paying a loan. handling your money is something that anyone can learn and your never too old or too young to start.
Reply:If you had a job and were earning your own money instead of your mom giving it to you, I bet you would find it is a lot easier NOT to spend your money.

If you don't want to waste money, don't go to the mall, or don't go as much.
Reply:Go to the mall with all your money and resist the temptation to spend it.
Reply:Hi,

First of all I would suggest that you, after picking things out, before you pay for them.Ask yourself if you really need them.

How will I feel later when I have no Money.

My husband always tells me this.Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it.

I was wanting to go to see my daughter in Oregon. And I had to save the money for it.I knew that I wanted to go with at least $800.00.So I had to learn that I had to say know to those things that were less important to me.So if having money in your

wallet is more imoportant than what you thank you want at the mall.Than you will learn to say no to what is less important to you.
Reply:Don't keep all that money in your wallet. Decide to bring a certain amount (perhaps $25-$30). This way, you won't be so tempted to buy things because you won't have the money. This doesn't mean that you can't buy things you'd like perhaps a cd, dvd, book, a blouse ON SALE.

I know if I have a lot of money on me, then I sort of go wild and spend money on whatever I want.

It takes some discipline, but I know you can do it. Get the BUYING out of your system by trying on lots of clothes (free) without buying any----listen to cd's in stores (they often have headphones), looking through magazines at the bookstore.
Reply:Stop taking the allowance. Get a part time job. you'll be less likely to spend $30 on something when you realize you worked an entire day to be able to afford that one thing.
Reply:only take large bills like 20$ so you dont buy a 5 dollar headband with a 20 it workds
Reply:Find another place to hang out if you don't have the will power not to spend.
Reply:stop going to the mall. The mall is not a good place to hang out anyway. There is plenty of things to do that don't require spending money.
Reply:SPEND IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN....SOON ENOUGH YOU WILL HAVE TO SAVE MONEY.RIGHT NOW SOMEONE ELSE IS PAYING YOUR BILLS...GO HAVE FUN!!!
Reply:what i do is i dont take ALL of my money only half or less...it works for me
Reply:Hello! you get more then most kids for an allowance... What do your parents do for a living? If you really want to save money, the answer is you stay away from the malls! I know it is tempting but use your will power, okay? Oh.. and can I have loan??
