How much money am I saving a month by turning down my heat 2 degrees fahreheit at night time?

Is it really worth the savings? My dad turns is down to 66 at night but i find it freezing cold. I sleep in the basement and im sure its alot colder down here. I tell my dad to leave the heat at 68 all the time but he says he saves money by turning it down at night time. Is he really saving all that much? I'm willing to pay the difference to keep it the same temp. all the time, i just need to know how much he is saving. Thank you everybody!

I don't think it is that much of a savings. My husband is the same way as your dad. He THINKS that turning the temperature down 1 or 2 degrees would make a HUGE difference. But, it's your dad's house, so it wouldn't be fair or wise to turn the heat up behind his back. You need to be upfront %26amp; honest w/him. Ask him how much does he think he's saving %26amp; offer to pay that amount to him if he would leave the heat on 68.
Reply:An eight hour setback of one degree saves you 1%, per link below.

If he has a programmable thermostat he can set it for a serious setback as long as he starts the turn-down time after you go to sleep and set it to raise the temperature back up before you get out of bed. If he doesn't have a programmable one they are about $35 because the electric companies give an energy-saving rebate (which can be as much as 100% of thermostat cost).

Also try hitting him up for a great down comforter or an electric blanket in the meantime.
Reply:we all really have no way of knowing how much, we dont know what reagion you live in or the normal temp. ask him to see the bills and when he falls asleep turn it up the heat. check on the next bill and you will know more or less how much savings there is.
